Betsey Johnson Features Wedding Dresses In New Collection
SPRING 2009 ‘Betsey Betsey Land’ Collection. Enter a world of bedtime stories and nursery rhymes in Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2009 collection. Now a grandmother of two, the designer took inspiration from the classic story of Peter Pan. To capture all the elements of the beloved fairytale, the collection is characterized by five fresh, dynamic groupings.
Wendy’s World- Innocent playroom images of clowns, bunnies, and ducks printed on circus brights and candy colored pastels reminds one of childhood bliss. Jaunty silhouettes include floor skimming hoopskirts, striped ruffled rompers, puffed up sleeves, fancy blazers, and high-waist polka dot pants.
Nighty Night- Pretty in pure white, bloomer suits, tiered ruffles, antique lace, and bustled separates portray Victorian aesthetic with a modern twist. Sheer silks, organza, and cotton fabrics create dreamlike serenity.
Hooks & Crooks - Punky skull prints, polka dots, and bold stripes in blacks, creams, and reds elevate a sense of feminine edge. Menswear inspired military and tuxedo jackets, layered over flouncy dresses and paired with printed leggings reflect hints of inspiration from Sweeny Todd and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Stolen Treasures- A graphic Moroccan rose motif is prominent on a pallet of green, blue, and magenta that is highlighted with bold citrus yellows and tie dye jewel tones. Silhouettes vary from full shoelace tied skirts, bustle jackets, and ultra puff sleeves, to crop tops, cigarette pants, bloomers, and festive gowns.
Robbed Royalty- Voluminous tulle, silk, ruffled, and lace white gowns again reflect Victorian glamour with a sense of Betsey’s humor. Silhouettes include a strapless mini cupcake frock, duchess silk pleated ruffle dress, and a signature tulle wedding gown.
